Theatre Wallay performed its latest play ‘Dhamal Nai Ruk Sakdi’ – a 20 minute play – at the National Library Auditorium in Islamabad on May 30, 2015 at the concluding ceremony of Peace Week organized by Pakistan US Alumni Network.
The play was written by Salman Haider, and directed by Salman Haider and Fizza Hasan. The play focused on the robust Sufi tradition of Dhamal which symbolizes inclusion, and tolerance to difference of opinion. It depicted how the intolerance is reaching insane levels as it is resulting in the loss of life of innocent persons who are out to do some good, to contribute to the society, or at least are not causing any harm to it.
It depicts a school kid who believes Muslims do not kill children, an ordinary man who takes his little kid to the mosque for the first time, and a polio worker who is out to vaccinate children to protect them from polio.
The play was very well received by the audience. Theatre Wallay has been approached by other organizations to perform this play again for wider audience. TW would update you on next performances.
